From The Brewery

In the 14th Century, Sailors would rely on sheer skill to get from a starting point to a final destination. They called this Dead Reckoning. We see our beer the same way. We know where to begin and know where to go, but there are hundreds of ways to get there.

Color (SRM): Brown to Black
Availability: Seasonal (August – October)
Malts: Pilsner, Caramel, Roast, Black
Hops: Vanguard, Chinook
Yeast: Unfiltered Ale

Appearance: It pours a rich mahogany brown to black. It had a thick, rich, textured tan head that lasted most of the way down.

Smell: Big roast and slight hops with mild sweetness in the background. Freshly ground medium roast coffee.

Taste: Smooth and complex full flavored roast ride; big fresh out of the roaster coffee into a semi sweet bakers and black chocolate finishing with a big dose of fine espresso.. It has a a lingering hop finish that builds as the pint progresses; as it warms it opens up very nicely. The yeast flavors come out more and more as it finishes.

Mouthfeel: Creamier than most porters – more of a stout to me, but who the hell cares? It is an awesome beer.

Drinkability: Huge; dangerously so at 5.8%

Notes: A full flavored, tasty beer. I cannot recommend this enough to people who love bold beers that remind them of coffee and espresso. Buy this when you see it.
