Saranac Rye IPA

F.X. Matt Brewery
“Saranac Rye IPA”

From The Brewery

An IPA with a wry twist, Saranac Rye IPA is an aggressively hopped brew, sure to take your taste buds on an adventure. We’ve stepped away from the mold of typical IPAs and selected premium rye malt and a unique mix of spicy hops. Look for a crisp, brazen finish.

Beer Style: India Pale Ale
Malt Selections: Two Row, Rye
Hop Selections: Hallertau, Saaz
Color: Golden
Mouthfeel / Body: Medium
Food Companions: Seafood, Pizza, Mexican
ABV: 5.95%
OG: 14.0

Appearance: A golden yellow, clear and lively with a thick chunky head; thin wide lacing.

Smell: Sweet and floral hoppy smelling, with a bit of citrus and spice.

Taste: A balanced malt and floral hoppy IPA up front; as the sip finishes, a Saaz and rye spicy finish comes through. The malt is toasty and biscuity, with the hops being earthy and pungent. As the beer goes on, the spice builds in a mouth coating lingering flavor. A very different take on an IPA.

Mouthfeel: Smooth, medium bodied and drying.

Drinkability: High. I had 2 back to back, and would have had another without hesitation, had there been another in my 12 pack.

Notes: Saranac needs to release this beer in a stand alone 6 pack. I was very impressed with this spicey earthy hoppy IPA with a subtle rye finish.
