Dogfish Head “Punkin Ale” Review (#093)

Dogfish Head "Punkin Ale"

Dogfish Head
“Punkin Ale”
Milton, DE

From The Brewery:

A full-bodied brown ale with smooth hints of pumpkin and brown sugar. We brew our Punkin Ale with pumpkin meat, organic brown sugar and spices. This is the perfect beer to warm-up with, as the season cools.

ABV: 7%
IBUs: 28

Review:

Appearance: This beer is a beautiful orange beer with a hint of burnt caramel all topped off with a sandy colored chunky head.

Smell:Like standing in the kitchen on Thanksgiving as the pumpkin pie is being prepared. Big pumpkin and spice with a little earthy sweetness.

Taste: Drying, spice forward pumpkin pie. There is a bit of toasty and sweet malts in the background, followed up by the brown sugar – a solid brown ale base with a nice rasiny crystal malt flavor.

Mouthfeel: Drying and medium to full bodied.

Drinkability/Palitability: Medium. Very spice forward – one is enough.

Notes: A nice seasonally dessert beer. Not something I can drink a lot of.
