Ithaca Beer Co. “Excelsior! AlpHalpHa” Review (#073)

Ithaca Beer Co.
“Excelsior! AlpHalpHa”
Ithaca, New York

From The Brewery:

A hoppy upstate ale brewed with organic barley malt, New York State grown cascade hops, local alfalfa honey, pure Cayuga lake water and American yeast.
Enjoy the golden straw color, intensely sweet floral aroma, crisp grassy flavor and clean bitter finish.

ABV: 8.5%
Malt: Organic Pilsner
Hops: NY Cascade
Other: Local Alfalfa Honey

Appearance: This beer is a glowing orange yellow color, with a thick but quickly dissipating white chunky head. It is hazy and very inviting.

Smell: Sweet with a huge floral Cascade hop aroma.

Taste: A delicious and sweet beer; the honey shines through nicely while displaying the big hop flavor. A nice amount of drying bitterness, as the cascade bring more by way of aroma and flavor than bitterness. Not as bitter as many similar Pale Ales; especially lacking that metallic flavor that comes through with some hop usage.

Mouthfeel: Smooth and light with the perfect amount of carbonation.

Drinkability: Huge; this is an awesome beer that would be very easy to drink a good deal of.

Notes: This beer is exactly what they wanted it to be. Sweet and light, with a whole bunch of cascade hops. Too bad it is a limited release!
