Ithaca Soda Co. “Root Beer” Review

Ithaca Soda Co. Root Beer

Ithaca Soda Co.
Root Beer
Ithaca, New York

(Note: This is my first soda review, and I will be using the same format that I use to review beers)

From The Soda Maker:

Full-flavored and creamy. Brewed with natural Panama Bark extract, hops, star anise, juniper berries and vanilla bean. Wonderful any time. Great with a big scoop of ice cream.

Review:

Appearance: Using a pint glass, I poured out my first soda that I would be reviewing, and not just enjoying. It was dark dark brown, with a little red shinning through the dense translucent liquid. I nice amount of large carbonation bubbles rose up, which is more favorable over super small high carbonation.

Smell: Anise and sweet root beer smell was aparent from a distance away even. A very strong smelling drink, with hints of vanilla and spice.

Taste: Amazing; a full flavored soda. Not overly sweet; but very enjoyable. Vanilla and anise are up front, with a spicy drying finish, most likely contributed by the hops.

Mouthfeel: Bubbly, but not too finely carbonated; with the right amount of it. Slight viscosity to it; comparable to a porter. Very refreshing with a meal, as it works to cleanse the palate.

Drinkability/Palitability:Huge; one goes down smooth and you could easily keep drinking this all day. Not too sweet like some sodas using high fructose corn syrup.

Notes: A great soda, I cannot wait to try this with a large scoop of vanilla icecream.
