Lagunitas “The Hairy Eyeball” Review (#048)

Lagunitas Brewing Co.
The Hairy Eyeball
Petaluma, CA

From The Brewery:

Hairy Eyeball Ale
Our New Year’s release for the seasoned beer folks … Big, brown warmer with several types of crystal malt. No actual eyeballs can actually be found in the beer

Appearance: I poured this thick, potent elixir into a Sam Adam’s perfect pint glass, displaying white chunky head with a opaque red body.

Smell: Bold and strong; esters and heat, brown sugar and molasses; the yeast smell that I feel tie the Lagunitas beers together.

Taste: Amazing! Sweet and strong; candied fruits, yeast, caramels and sugars.

Mouthfeel: Heavy! Coats the whole mouth; creamy and active.

Drinkability/Palitability:Lower; not a beer to be messed with coming in at 8.8% ABV. Lagunitas has a way of making beers that sneak up on you.

Notes: I feel like the Lagunitas line of beers covers all colors and texters of the brewing rainbow, each with similar brewery characteristics, each standing on their own as an excellent beer.
