Victory Brewing Co. “Hop Devil” Review (#040)

Victory Brewing Co.
“Hop Devil”

Downingtown, Pennsylvania

From The Brewery:

Menacingly delicious, with the powerful, aromatic punch of whole flower American hops backed up by rich, German malts. HopDevil Ale offers a roller coaster ride of flavor, coasting to a smooth finish that satisfies fully.

COMPOSITION

Malts: Imported, German 2 row
Hops: American whole flowers
ABV: 6.7%

Review:

Appearance: I enjoyed this copper orange colored beer out of a pint glass. At the top was a thick, chunky, white head that lasted all the way down, and left lacing on the whole glass.

Smell: A citrus hop bomb on the nose; a bold dose of grapefruit hops with a little bit of malts at the end.

Taste: This is a beer that lives up to not only it’s hype, but also it’s name. This is one devil of a complex, hoppy beer. Tastes that mirror the smells up front, only to be added to as the beer progresses. Big sticky hop resin mixed with a balance of malt sweetness, but never cloying. It finishes with a little bit of earthy hop spice to make you want to take another sip; then another, and another.

Mouthfeel: A rich, full bodied, mouth coating and sticky beer.

Drinkability/Palitability: Medium; coming in strong on all fronts, this is a brew that will wear you out of you try to take on too much. Two is my limit.

Notes: An all around fantastic brew; East Coast brewing at its finest. Victory comes through again.
