North Coast “Brother Thelonious” Review (#036)

North Coast Brewing Co.
“Brother Thelonious”
Fort Bragg, CA

From The Brewery:

Vital Statistics
Style: Belgian Style Strong Dark
Color: Dark mahogany
ABV: 9.4%
IBUs: 32

Review:

Appearance: I poured the dark red ale into my Duvel tulip glass. It was finely carbonated with a thin creamy head.

Smell: Mild and sweet with slight Belgian yeast esters.

Taste: Smooth, creamy malt with caramel and brown sugar with huge Belgian yeast. It opens up very nice as it warms up giving way to figs and spice.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with bold carbonation makes it a lively brew.

Drinkability: Medium: High for a dubble, but more than two would be difficult. It went down surprisingly well for me, based on the higher level of carbonation, which usually turns me off.

Notes: A solid beer in honor of a wonderful musician. I would love to see someone do a “Bitches Brew”
