Hop Head Red Ale
Green Flash Brewing Co.
From The Brewery:
Resinous hop character and bitterness balance the rich carmel malt base. We took it a step further and Amarillo dry-hopped the brew to 45 ibu’s, creating refreshing and savory hop flavors and aromas. Is it red IPA? That’s your call.
Appearance: I poured this delicious, heavy ale into a chalice, filling it with chunky white huge head. It looked dense and dark; blood ruby color was amazing.
Smell: Huge spicy Amarillo hops; earthy and rich. Hops were big, and malts were there with mellowing support.
Taste: Big spice and flowers from hops, with the caramel malts sitting nicely. I very different taste to a hoppy beer, as many use cascade to add a floral character. This one is pungent, with the slightest mineral metallic taste that comes with the acidity. The flavor developed and I warmed up more to this beer as it did.
Mouthfeel: Bold and big; not drying bitter, more of a spice dry.
Drinkability: Low; a huge palate busting beer. Takes a toll on how much you can consume.
Notes: A unique beer that grew on me more as it warmed. The last 1/3 of the beer was amazing.
First Time Trying This Beer: Yes
